Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area

Some island getaways are best enjoyed when the focus is firmly on time lounging a day away under the sun. Others are crafted to revolve around outdoor adventure at its very best. When you have plans to enjoy time away on the Big Island of Hawaii and you can’t wait to infuse both options into your stay, making sure a stop at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area is at the top of your itinerary is a must!

A Beautiful Place to Embrace Shoreline Fun and Adventure

The Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area is located along the breathtaking Kohala Coast and proudly boasts its reputation as one of the island’s most stunning white sand beaches around. A visit to the Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area is to encounter a place that consistently ranks toward the top of many “best beaches” lists with good reason. This beautiful and inviting destination is a family-friendly stop on the map where visitors can enjoy soaking up the sun or swimming alike. The waters are refreshingly clear here, making it a great place to enjoy afternoons of snorkeling, particularly along the southern edge of Hapuna Beach. If you do go for a swim or take time to snorkel, you’ll want to be sure to be water-aware, as the area does still have rip currents to look out for. If you prefer to stay on the sand, you might be lucky enough to spot a migrating whale from the shoreline at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area depending on the time of year you travel here.

Lounge and Picnic Your Way to Fun

When you’ve had your fill of strolling on the sand or bodyboarding on the waves, you’ll find this destination is just as inviting for taking time to lounge your way to a great stay. The park is undeniably picturesque, and the dry semi-arid desert climate here makes for a comfortable afternoon on the shoreline. There are areas with shaded gazebos to settle under when you want to relax, and picnic tables are available as well for pairing the views with a savory moment. If you linger later in the day, your trip this way will treat you to a pretty spectacular sunset.
